Cacti – Mural 2016

Cacti is a mural I painted in late 2016 heavily influenced by the landscapes and vistas I witnessed while living in Sonora, Mexico. I was asked to design and execute a mural for a large, white basement wall. Working with such a large space allowed me to play around with perspective, having the cacti become more and more silhouetted by detail and shadow. The desert landscape attempts to replicate that of the Sonora desert with its large cacti and the abstract lines that frame the murals left side are influenced by Aztec architecture. The sun which is such a dominant figure in the desert is represented here by a glaring geometric mandala containing a touch of turquoise. The mural was done with Posca pens and acrylic paint.
